I have been playing guitar for 50 years and have been teaching privately for 35 years and for the last 25 years in schools.
I have extensive live, studio and writing experience and I am still a performing musician.

LESSONS
Information
Lessons are 30 minutes or 1 hour long and I teach all ages and abilities.
I teach from my home in Long Ashton, just outside Bristol.
I teach all styles but focus on modern guitar.... Finger style, soloing/improvisation, rhythm playing and chord studies, slide guitar, music theory and song writing. I also can set up guitars and advise on guitar modification and repairs.
I have an up to date DBS.

FAQ
1. What do you teach.
A. I teach all styles of guitar but focus on what the student wants to learn as it should be fun!
2. Do I need to read music?
A. No, I mostly use guitar tab which is specifically for guitar and speeds up the learning process. Music notation is useful though so at some point many students will learn this too.
3. Do I need a guitar and which one?
A. Yes students ideally need a guitar to practice at home, although I can provide one for the lessons. I will help with advice on the best guitar to buy.
4. How often do I need lessons?
A. Ideally beginners need weekly 30 minute lessons but fortnightly would be OK too. More advanced students may have an hour lesson less frequently.
5. Do you teach children and what age should they start?
A. Yes I teach all ages and have 25 years of experience teaching in both Junior and Secondary schools. The best age for children is when they are showing an interest in learning guitar and I advice starting around the age of 8.
6. Do you have to start with acoustic guitar?
No, any guitar is fine to learn on and electric guitars are generally easier to play, the main difference between guitars is they way they sound. Classical guitars tend to have wider necks which can make it difficult for beginners.
7. What days do you teach?
A. I can teach most days and I am flexible with timings. I teach at the weekend which is usually the most convenient day for students. I also teach evenings/after school.
